Here is how to actually use each 55+ discount: which day to go, what to bring, what to say at the register and what is not covered. Each program is run by the company or agency named, and the rules below were checked on their official pages in September 2026. Terms can change, so confirm with the store before you shop.
Before you shop: three things to have ready
- An ID showing your date of birth: a driver’s license or state ID works. Several programs say proof of age may be requested, and some always ask for it.
- The store account, when required: the Walgreens discount is only for myWalgreens members. Joining is free, but sign up before you reach the register.
- The right day marked on your calendar: most store discounts apply on one day only. Going a day early or a day late means paying full price.
Walgreens Seniors Day, step by step
- Join myWalgreens. The loyalty program is free. You can sign up in the Walgreens app, on walgreens.com or in the store.
- Check the date. Seniors Day happens once a month, normally on the first Tuesday. Walgreens notes the date may shift because of a holiday, and its Seniors Day page shows the current month (in September 2026 it was Tuesday, September 1).
- Know the age rule. The offer is for shoppers 55 and older. Proof of age may be required.
- Choose eligible regular-price items. The 20% applies to eligible items. Walgreens lists many exclusions, including alcohol, dairy, tobacco, stamps, gift cards, lottery tickets, money orders, transportation passes, prescriptions, pharmacy items and services, and sales tax.
- Ask at checkout. Tell the associate you would like the Seniors Day discount and give your myWalgreens information.
- Shopping online? Walgreens has also listed a promo code for its website during Seniors Day week. In September 2026 the code was SENIOR20, valid from August 30 to September 5. Codes and dates change, so check the Seniors Day page each month.
Ross on Tuesdays: 55 and older
Ross calls its program the 55+ Tuesday Discount: 10% off purchases made on Tuesday by customers 55 or older. According to Ross, you need to tell the associate at the time of purchase, and you may be asked for an ID to verify your age or date of birth.

Getting a 55+ phone plan
T-Mobile. T-Mobile’s 55+ page advertises two unlimited lines on the Essentials Choice 55 plan for $30 per month per line, with the AutoPay discount applied and taxes and fees added on top. It also lists 55+ versions of its Experience More and Experience Beyond plans with extra features. Before you switch, ask T-Mobile three things: who on the account must be 55 or older, how many lines the plan allows, and what the price is without AutoPay.
AT&T. AT&T says its 55+ plan is for accounts where the account owner is at least 55. To qualify, you also sign up for AT&T Fiber or AT&T Internet Air service, plus AutoPay and paperless billing with a bank account. If you don’t want AT&T home internet, this plan is not the right fit.
With any carrier, you can keep your current number by asking the new company to transfer it, and you should not cancel your old service until the new line is working.
How to buy the Senior Pass
The America the Beautiful Senior Pass is for U.S. citizens and permanent residents 62 and older. There are three ways to get it:
Anúncios
- In person: at a participating federal recreation site. The National Park Service lists $80 for the lifetime pass and $20 for the annual pass, and says physical passes are sold or issued at more than 1,000 sites. Bring proof of age and residency.
- By mail, ordered online: through the USGS Store. You upload proof of age and residency, and the total comes to $92.50 for the lifetime pass or $32.50 for the annual pass, since a $5 document processing fee and a $7.50 handling fee are added. Delivery can take up to three weeks.
- Digital: Recreation.gov offers digital versions of both Senior Passes.
Already hold annual passes? The USGS Store explains that they can be upgraded to a lifetime pass in person: one annual pass plus $60, two plus $40, three plus $20, or four annual passes with nothing more to pay.

Your 55+ discount week
Which day to go and what to bring
1. First Tuesday of the month — Walgreens Seniors Day, 55+, myWalgreens member, 20% off eligible items.
2. Every Tuesday — Ross, 55+, 10% off. Tell the associate before paying.
3. Any day — Amtrak, 65+, 10% off most fares. Choose “Senior” when you book.
4. Once — Senior Pass at 62+: $80 for life at a federal recreation site.
5. Always — an ID with your date of birth and the words “Do you have a senior discount?”
From each company’s official page, September 2026. Terms can change.
Not 62 or 65 yet? What works at each age
At 55 you can already use Walgreens Seniors Day, the Ross Tuesday discount, the 55+ phone plans and the 55+ restaurant menus. The Senior Pass starts at 62, and Amtrak’s 10% starts at 65. Keep in mind, too, that most National Park Service sites charge no entrance fee at all: the Park Service says fewer than a quarter of its more than 400 sites have one.
If a store tells you it doesn’t offer a senior discount, it is fine to ask whether there is another way to save, such as a loyalty program or a weekly sale. Just never pay anyone for a “senior discount card” that promises store savings: none of the store discounts on this page charges a fee to join.
